Together with the Institute for Peace, Leadership and Governance (IPLG) at Africa University, ZPSP has started a community security research project. The first phase of the project will address community security in rural contexts while the second part is to tackle the urban environment.
Issues of community security lie at the heart of security sector transformation (SST), addressing basic human security issues as they affect ordinary people. In order to develop the rural community research proposal, the ZPSP and IPLG held a consultative research seminar in which actors, research priorities and issues to be incorporated into the research process were mapped. It was agreed at this seminar to introduce an introductory publication, provisionally entitled “Exploring Issues of Community Security in Zimbabwe: the Rural Context”. The publication will comprise eight chapters authored by local academics and practitioners.
